Privacy policy

Draft 1 · 17 September 2026 · Applies to the DisplayMode app and this website

DisplayMode draws your screen. It does not record it. This page lists everything the app can see and everything that ever leaves your Mac. The technical detail behind each statement — which permission, which engine, how to revoke — is on the Permissions page.

1. Your screen

With the Screen Recording permission, DisplayMode streams the virtual displays it creates and draws them onto your physical monitor. Frames exist in memory and on the GPU while the split is on. No frame is written to disk and no frame is sent over the network. The only image the app ever saves is the diagnostic screenshot you request yourself, to a location you choose.

2. Your input

With the Accessibility permission, DisplayMode keeps the cursor inside the visible desktops and, if you use the window manager, reads and moves window frames. The app subscribes to mouse events only. It never reads your keyboard — its keyboard shortcuts use the system hotkey API, which does not see any other key — and it never asks for the Input Monitoring permission.

3. What leaves your Mac

4. What stays on your Mac

Settings, layouts per monitor, window snapshots and logs are stored in your user library and are deleted by “Revoke permissions & uninstall…”. The trial record and the licence token stay after an uninstall so that a reinstall does not start a new trial; they contain dates, a device identifier and, in the licence token, a hash of the e-mail address the key was issued to — no screen content and no personal data beyond that.

5. Purchases

Orders are handled by Paddle.com Market Ltd, our merchant of record. Paddle receives your payment details and billing address; we receive the order number, the licence key it generated and, for consent records required by consumer law, the e-mail address used at checkout. Paddle’s own privacy policy governs the data it processes.

6. This website

The site is static. It remembers your language choice in your browser’s local storage and sets no cookies of its own. It is served by Cloudflare Pages, whose logs are governed by Cloudflare’s privacy policy.

7. Contact

Questions about this policy: support@displaymode.app.

Draft for legal review. To be confirmed before the first sale: the controller’s legal identity and address, the retention period of consent records, the exact fields the licence server stores, and the support address (a placeholder domain is used above).
